Best Sellers in 2013

Wow...its almost 2013!  Time to celebrate a great year, and look forward to what's ahead. Thought this would be a fun time to look back at what  were my best sellers in 2013.  It was going to be the top 10, but there was a tie for spot 10 so it became 11.

Hope you had a great 2013 and will have a wonderful new year!

This was mainly due to one sale of 40 TIES that I'm still geeking out over.
What were they used for?  I may never know.

Yep, those all were at my Zazzle shop.  Didn't sell as much at CafePress this year (actually, that's been a trend the last few years).  And I've only sold one thing at Printfection, ever.  Didn't sell as much as last year but still did alright.  And if that was because I spend less time on the shop and more time, well, living life, than it was worth it.

My Newest Project: Glass Ornaments!

I am selling some of my ornaments at The Mix, a cute little boutique/cafe in Hewitt, TX (near Waco).   In addition to the ceramic ones like I sell through CafePress and Zazzle, there are some new new hand-made glass ornaments (or, hand decorated, I should say...glass blowing is not one of my talents).

Here's some pictures of the glass ornaments I decorated...

I used oil based sharpie markets (they work the best on glass, and have a very paint-like feel).    It took a little while to get used to drawing on a curved surface, but once I got the hang of it, boy these were fun to make.  Every one is a little different, and they come in various color.  So far there are clear, white, red, green and blue ornaments...with various color scribble prints.  I really like the lacy look of the white on the clear (in the picture above that one is resting on a scarf my mom made...I think they look just lovely together).

Here you can see some ornaments set up on the tree at the Mix.

Here's one of my Scribbleprint Star ornaments.
I love how it looks on the tree.

Anyways, if you're in the Waco/Hewitt area...I'd love it if you'll come come out and check them out!  And you might want to try one of The Mix's incredible quiches while you're there.  They are DELICIOUS!   You can find The Mix at 803 N. Hewitt Dr in Hewitt, TX.

And if you aren't in the area, you can still get 10% off ceramic ornaments at my Zazzle shop with coupon code ORNAMENTDEAL through 12/31/13!

Check Out My New Bound Mini Journals!

Zazzle added new mini journals, and I am so excited to have these!

Like all Zazzle products they are fully customizable.  You can even add personalization on the inside covers (front and back).  I added quotes to in inside cover of some of these, like the one below from my Roses Journal...

Of course, you can replace the quotes with whatever you want. Adding your own message or dedication would make this  really special gift.

I would love some suggestions on quotes to use with some of my other designs (the ones I haven't added yet - you can see all my designs here).  If I use your suggested quote, I will send you a free sampling of scribbleprint goodies.   You can leave your suggestions in the comments below (if you know the author, please include it...especially if it's you!).

New Design - Roses on Weathered Wood

Since Zazzle came out with wrapping paper, I've been having fun messing around with seamless designs in the Gimp.  I was playing around with some photos I had...most looked pretty horrible made seamless.

And then, I tried a picture of a rose that had found it's way through our fence from our neighbors yard.  It looked nice...but was missing something.  I decided to try the cartoonize filter (same as posterize on Adobe).

And wow...this showed up...

There's this little thrill that goes up my spine when I try something and it turns out really well.  I loved how it came out.  It really looked painted (unlike a lot of photos I've tried this technique on).  Even the fading that comes with making a design seamless worked here, making it look like the flowers were painted on the wood, and weather had faded the paint after time.

It looks good on wrapping paper, but I tried it on some other items and think it looks even better on these....

I'd love to hear what you think!  And bloggers and webmasters, if you like this, you can use it as a background on your blog.  Just please read the terms below.

Invitations, Now With Rounded Corners!

Exiting news (for me at least). Now my 5 x 7 invitations and announcements come with the option to have rounded corners.  If they aren't already shown with rounded corners you change that option at the bottom of the paper style customization menu (and vice versus, if you like them non-rounded).

Plates & Platters

Last Christmas I bought my mom a set of four square plates with my designs...one for each of the four seasons.  I really liked how they came out, except that the design for the bird plate was smaller than it looked in the preview, and was a little off-center.   I probably could have gotten that replaced (CafePress is usually good about that)...but I just didn't take the time to do it.

After nearly a year of use, the plates seemed to have fared well.  They do show some signs of use though.  The bird plate was scratched when a steak knife was used on it...as you can see below.  So, it's probably best to not use sharp knives on these.

My plates are currently on sale in the CafePress marketplace, and you can get an extra 20% off today with coupon code BOO29.  (Coupon expires at midnight Oct 29).

Tangled Ways

Be Quiet Poster
Tangled Ways Poster

These words were a gift from my mom, clipped from somewhere and slipped into the notebook with all her important papers (the one she told me to get "if anything ever happened to me.")  She passed away recently, and while making plans for all the little details that have to be done in times like these, these words have helped me through.

I did a little research on this quote...I found it in two different books, both published in the 1800's.  In one of these, Daily Strength for Daily Need by Mary Wilder Tileston, listed the author as simply E.W.   The other source,  A Dictionary of Poetical Illustrations, showed that this was just one stanza from a larger poem.  I still think this verse is most powerful alone, but the poem it was in was beautiful, too, so I wanted to share it with you.

Be still, my soul, let nothing stir
Thee from the sweet repose
Of those who to their God refer
Their joys, their cares, their woes.

Be quiet, why this anxious heed
About thy tangled ways?
God knows them all, He giveth speed,
And He allows delays.

What though He let thee not perform
Some good and loved design?
Thou would'st not wish Him to conform
His perfect will to thine!

My God! the hearing ear impart,
To hear Thee tell Thy will,
And then bestow the ready heart
All meekly to fulfill.

To my knowledge both the quote and the poem
are in the public domain.
